Bangalore, May 5: Royal Challengers Bangalore have to regain winning form if they have to keep their play-offs hopes alive in IPL 5. RCB will face Deccan Chargers in Game 50 here at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday night.
RCB go into their home match after two successive losses. First, they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens followed by a defeat to Kings XI Punjab here.
At the moment, RCB are seventh in the points table with 9 points from 10 games. DC are last with 5 points from 10 matches.
With both teams left to play six more games each before the semi-finalists are spotted, Sunday's clash is very important for RCB. These two South Indian teams are meeting for the first time this year. They had played the 2009 final where DC won the title.
Though DC's passage to play-offs is tougher when compared to RCB.
Bowling is a worry for RCB with their captain Daniel Vettori struggling. On Friday, Vettori opted to stay out to fit in Sri Lankan spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan.
“I will opt out if it is needed. I have said from the start that we need to get out four overseas players and we do that every game. If it’s right for me to sit down and then it’s fine with me. Our success last year was due to three international batsmen and one spinner. We need to choose between one of us (Vettori and Murali),” Vettori said.
RCB's batting will invariably depend on Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers. Virat Kohli showed signs of returning to form in the last game. All these three batsmen hold the key in posting a big total.
For DC, Cameron White has come back to form, which is a great sign. They lost a close game to Chennai Super Kings.
It will be exciting to watch the battle between Dale Steyn and Gayle. Can the tall Jamaican treat Steyn with same disdain and hit him for boundaries?
A full house is expected to cheer the home team. That should lift RCB.
