New Delhi, May 8: Virender Sehwag speaks like he bats. He is never known to be diplomatic. He speaks his mind. When asked about Kolkata Knight Riders' mystery offspinner Sunil Narine, Sehwag's reply was “I could have smashed him.”
Delhi Daredevils were beaten by Kolkata Knight Riders by six wickets at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Monday night in IPL 5's Game 51.
Trinidadian spinner Narine has been impressive throughout IPL 5 and on Monday too he weaved his magic as batsmen struggled to read him. He finished with 2/23 in four overs.
However, captain Gautam Gambhir kept Narine away from Sehwag. He did not bowl him when Sehwag at the crease. Gambhir knew how well Sehwag could have played Narine.
In the post-match interview, Delhi skipper Sehwag was asked Narine and he was frank in his views. However, he did praise the spinner.
"(Narine) might not work against me. I could have smashed him, but it is difficult for others. It is difficult to pick him. He is good, young bowler. He is learning fast,” said Sehwag.
It will be interesting to see if Sehwag keeps his promise to “smash” the bowler when he gets an opportunity to face. That could happen in the play-offs this year or in the near future at international level.
