Jaipur, May 9: Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Andy Bichel feels that his team is missing a 'good finisher' during close encounters as most of the matches are going on to the wire in IPL 5, ahead of their crucial match against Rajasthan Royals at Jaipur.
Bichel feels all the teams have good finishers, especially Delhi Daredevils as Kevin Pietersen was finishing the matches very well as Chennai Super Kings lacked a good finisher, and also blamed batsmen for not being consistent, as there is a need to bounce back.
"If you look at a team like Delhi Daredevils, you will find guys like Virender Sehwag and Kevin Pietersen finishing off matches for them. We need someone to finish the games off. Our batting group and bowling group is fine but we need to show character to bounce back. We need to show for consistency," Bichel stated on the eve of his team's away match against Rajasthan Royals.
Talking about his team's chances to qualify for play-offs, he said they are in the hunt for a play-off berth, ahead of his team's clash against Rahul Dravid-Rajasthan Royals to be played at Jaipur.
"There is still a chance for us. We are addressing to our problems and trying to bounce back and carry on with that form with rest of the season."
Bichel also said, the team missed a player like Mike Hussey at the start of the tournament as they needed some consistent player like Hussey in their batting line-up.
"We had missed Michael Hussey and players like him and Shane Watson give huge inputs to their teams. Watson is a class player and has been doing well for his country and also for Rajasthan Royals. Others like Rahul Dravid, Ajinkya Rahane, Brad Hodge and Owais Shah also have done well so far. We can't have any specific strategy for the likes of Watson but have to bowl a good length. It might work or it may not," he said.
Talking about the opposition, he said Rajasthan Royals have a balanced side and the recent performances by bowlers have been phenomenal and went on to praise Shaun Tait for his tight spells that helped Royals win the last two matches saying CSK also needs such players as they can contribute to the team's success.
When asked about Doug Bollinger's fitness, Bichel said, he is fine but the team management would take a call on playing him or not based on the conditions.
"Doug is well now. He would be on the selection list but the team would be finalized on basis of conditions out there," he said.
