Hyderabad, May 10: David Warner and Naman Ojha steered Delhi Daredevils to a nine-wicket win against Deccan Chargers at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday.
Warner's unbeaten knock lifted Delhi Daredevils to the top as he scored 109 not out off 54 balls, which included seven sixes and 10 boundaries.
While Naman Ojha too joined the party as he contributed 54 runs off 42 balls which included a 189-run unfinished partnership with Warner for the second wicket, which happens to be the highest partnership for Delhi Daredevils, and the second highest all-time stand in IPL.
Warner's powerful knock helped Daredevils reclaim top spot as they had slipped to second position after their six-wicket loss against Gautam Gambhir-led Kolkata Knight Riders.
After one match, Daredevils are back in action, as their daredevilry entertained the crowd as Warner was on song throughout the innings, as he steered the team single-handedly to a nine-wicket win.
Though Deccan Chargers got rid of the in-form Virender Sehwag off the second ball of the innings, they couldn't contain David Warner as that costed them the match.
Despite scoring a challenging 187/4, Deccan Chargers couldn't defend the total as it resulted in their 10th loss in the tournament, as their aim of salvaging pride looks impossible.
Deccan Chargers Innings Report: Riding high on Shikhar Dhawan and Cameron White's partnership, Deccan Chargers posted 187/4 in 20 overs against Delhi Daredevils in game 55 of IPL 5 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
White and Dhawan played brilliantly as they added 126 runs off just 70 balls for the third wicket. Dhawan's 49-ball 84 helped Chargers to comeback strongly against confident Daredevils.
Chargers were on fire as they scored at a breath-taking pace, especially when White joined Dhawan at crease, as the duo added 126 runs, most importantly the team reached 150 within 101 balls.
Morkel got the first breakthrough as he dismissed Daniel Harris for 19, off the fifth over, to surpass Lasith Malinga's tally of maximum wickets to earn the purple cap. While Kumar Sangakkara followed suit in the next over, as Varun Aaron dismissed him for 4.
Team's score at the end of ten overs read 64/2 which was just over 6 runs per over, but the duo accelerated the run-rate, as they collected 114 runs off the last 10 overs.
Though Shikhar Dhawan couldn't complete his century, as he fell for 84 to gift Irfan Pathan a wicket, after a remarkable innings, giving Chargers an upper hand over Delhi Daredevils.
Cameron White, too played a vital role as he scored his fifth half century in IPL to post a challenging total and aim for a win against Delhi Daredevils.
Deccan have scored 180 plus scores, but have failed to defend big totals in the past, so it will be nice to see if Deccan bowlers are equally charged to defend 187/4 and salvage pride.
