Kolkata, May 12: Gautam Gambhir, captain of Kolkata Knight Riders has changed things around for the team in IPL 5, as he has been leading the team from the front, as a result KKR is seated comfortably at No 2 in the points table, aiming to win its maiden IPL title.
Leading a side which was led by former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, Gautam Gambhir knows how difficult it is to earn the respect of people of Kolkata, as they haven't got the support from the homecrowd in the absence of Dada.
But this talented left-hander, who has adopted Kolkata as his new home, than regretting the support of home crowd, has proved his mettle as a leader providing a platform for KKR to aim for their first IPL title.
Gambhir, being removed as vice-captain of the Indian cricket team, he had to change things around and proves critics wrong, and his role as a captain of KKR gave him an opportunity to pass the test of character as he quietly led his team to the top four in the points table.
Though he has been the highest run-scorer for Kolkata in IPL 5, he doesn't want to talk about his form. With 457 runs off 11 games at an average of 45.70, Gambhir surely deserves the credit for bringing KKR to the play-offs, as they have not qualified for the semis since its inception in 2008.
His quotes prior to the match against Pune Warriors at Eden Gardens also suggest that he doesn't like being in spot-light.
"I have always felt it's not about the captain. The captain is always as good as his team," he said on the eve of their match against Pune Warriors last Saturday.
This Delhi-guy has shown the subtle side of his captaincy by giving away his man of the match award to Debabrata Das, while the coach Trevor Bayliss also feels that Gambhir is an excellent man manager, which has worked well for the team in IPL 5.
