New Delhi, May 15: As the Indian Premier League has drawn more attention due to the on-going fixing episode, as BCCI has already suspended five players, local police on the other hand have nabbed a few bookies who were involved in international betting and gambling on Tuesday.
Two instances where gambling racket was busted as police arrested two bookies Sanjay Kumar and Satish Kumar after conducting a raid last night in Rail bazaar area, while two others Kukku Yadav and Mintu fled from the place, according to police sources.
Police recovered Rs 25,600 and five mobile phones used for betting, and are interrogating the arrested bookies and inquiring about their connections in Delhi, Gujarat and other places.
While in another instance, police arrested two bookies in Pakistan's Punjab province as they were involved in betting on Tuesday.
According to Nasir Muneef Qureshi, Superintendent of Police in Sialkot (the hometown of Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik) said police raided a den of bookies at Parsur city, 70 kms from Lahore and arrested jamil Ahmed and Tariq Mehmood. They recovered 'stake money' and several cheques for a total of Rs 1 million from the bookies.
While these are just samples of international betting existing in Asian countries, it remains to be seen, how many people will be nabbed as international betting and gambling has become quite common off late.
