It’s just another game for me: Ganguly

Pune, May 19: Pune Warriors skipper Sourav Ganguly has said, today's clash against Kolkata Knight Riders will not be his last match as he still has a one-year contract with the team on Saturday.

Though today's clash is just a formality as Kolkata Knight Riders have already qualified for the play-offs, a win here would ensure a top-two finish and a chance to play the play-offs at the same venue after three days. While Warriors would like to finish eighth than sticking to the last spot, but a lot of emotions running between making it an interesting encounter.

Sourav Ganguly's episode doesn't seem to end, as it has been going on for more than a week now, after Pune crashed out of IPL 5. Comments made by the team owner suggested that Ganguly will not be seen as a player in the next season, as he is interested to be associated as a mentor.

Moreover, after Pune crashed out of IPL with three matches to go there was a rumour saying Ganguly will be rested for the remaining matches, as Steve Smith led the side against Royal Challengers Bangalore in his absence and Ganguly was back within 48 hours, as he led Warriors against Rajasthan Royals on May 13.

Contradicting to reports made by them, Ganguly has said, the match against Kolkata Knight Riders, the last laegue match for Warriors will not be his farewell match.

"It’s just another game for me," Ganguly said on Saturday.

"I don’t know what Mr. Roy has said, what he has been quoted as saying and whether they had shown the full interview or just part of it. Don’t forget, IPL contract is for three years," the 40-year-old, who is into the second year of his contract with PWI, said.

The 40-year-old, who is into the second year of his contract with PWI has said he is not sure whether he will be a part of the squad next year but his statement surely puts an end to those farewell comments, as he has expressed his desire to play next season.

"Next year is quite far away. I can’t think about whether I would be playing or not, 365 days is a long time," he said at Poona Club, the venue chosen by PWI for their Saturday’s practice.

To add more spice to it, when asked if he's playing today's game, Ganguly said he is 'definitely' a part of the playing XI. Ganguly episode gaining more prominence every passing day, it remains to be seen if there are more twists in the pipeline.
