Parnell, Rahul detained by Mumbai Police

Mumbai, May 21: After spot-fixing and Luke Pomersbach's episode, two IPL players were detained on charges of consuming banned drugs, during a raid at a rave party on Sunday.

The police have arrested the organiser of the party, Vijay Handa under the Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The raid was conducted at Oak Woods Hotel, one of the famous hotels in Mumbai, where the rave party was held.

Two IPL players, Rahul Sharma and Wayne Parnell both playing for Pune Warriors were also detained among the 100 during the raid on charges of consuming banned drugs.

Rahul Sharma did admit that he was at the hotel but said he was at a different party.

"I went for a birthday party at Oak Woods Hotel in Juhu. I had just reached there but nobody was present."

While Rahul's mother too said her son had been to a birthday party.

"My son is fine, he went for a birthday party. How would he know whether people are going to take drugs over there or there is going to be a police raid? My son is fine, there is no problem. He has done no wrong," she said.

Police detained around 100 people, including these two players and had to undergo medical tests, as the report seem to be critical as the charges are decided only based on the report.

While Additional Commissioner of Police, Vishwas Negre Patil said 58 boys and 38 girls were taken to Cooper Hospital for a blood and urine test.

"The stuff was being disposed after consumption, so we are going to find out who the peddlers were and who organised the party. All details will be given only after complete investigation," he said.

"Approximately 110 grams of cocaine along with MDMA, Ecstasy and charas were seized," Additional Commissioner of Police Vishwas Nagre Patil said on the raid conducted at Hotel Oakwoods in Juhu.
