Pune, May 23: Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir after defeating table-toppers Delhi Daredevils in the first qualifier at Pune, said his team was confident of defending the total and termed it an above par score at the wicket on Tuesday.
"We always felt that it was a 140-145 wicket, but when we got 160, we thought it was an above par score," he said.
When asked if the team relies on Jacques Kallis' all-round show, Gambhir defended his bowlers and said all the bowlers have performed well so far in the tournament.
"Not only about Kallis, all of them have bowled very well, lot of credit to all the bowlers including Balaji, Abdulla, Narine and others," Gambhir said.
Talking to the reporters during the post-match media interaction, Gambhir feels team's strike bowler Laxmipati Balaji, who had looked in some discomfort during the match, will recover in time before Sunday's final.
"We have four days for Balaji to recover from the injury" said Gambhir.
After a long break, Yusuf Pathan strike form, which was indeed a good sign as he smashed a brilliant 21-ball 40 to help side reach a good total, said he was pleased to have lived up to the expectations of the team.
Yusuf had a poor run before this match and had coped a lot of criticism. "There are always big hopes from me. I had not performed well in the previous games, but I know that I can get going in a big match," he said after receiving man-of-the-match award.
Since he had more time to settle down, it eased the pressure off the all-rounder as Yusuf Pathan smashed a 21-ball 40 to accelerate the run-flow at the end of the innings.. "I had a lot of time to get in and adjust myself to the track today. Now We are waiting for the big game. We will relax and await for it eagerly," he said.
With KKR qualifying for their first ever IPL final, all eyes are on Gambhir's XI after a wonderful run so far in the tournament. With an eliminator and a qualifier left, KKR can afford to take a four-day break as the final is scheduled on May 27, Sunday.
