Bangalore, May 25: As Delhi Daredevils take on Chennai Super Kings in the second qualifier of IPL 5, they would like to forget their 2009 qualifier and look to enter the final of IPL 5 for the first time since its inception by beating the reigning champions CSK at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.
Delhi Daredevils, after leading the league with 20 points, Virender Sehwag-led side faced Deccan Chargers, the champions of 2009 during the knock-out phase of the tournament, as Adam Gilchrist-led side thumped Daredevils by 6 wickets to emerge as finalists for the first time, as they faced Royal Challengers in the final to emerge victorious.
Nothing went in Sehwag's favour right from the toss, as Deccan elected to field and Delhi got off to a shaky start as they lost David Warner and Gautam Gambhir (playing for KKR in IPL 5) in the first over of the innings. Skipper Sehwag, Tillkaratne Dilshan and AB de Villiers (both playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 5) contributed with 39, 65 and 26 respectively to help the team post 153/8 in 20 overs.
Chasing 154 to win, Adam Gilchrist's whirlwind 35-ball 85 helped Chargers to avdance to the finals, knocking out Delhi in the play-off stage. Chargers reached the target within 17.4 overs to register their maiden entry to the finals and went on to lift the trophy.
For the first time, Delhi made it to the knock-out stage just to be knocked out of the tournament by Chargers.
After finishing fourth in the first edition of IPL, Delhi progressed to the last four stage in the second edition of the cash-rich league which was played at South Africa due to security problems and general elections in India. Fifth and tenth in the later editions demanded a better performance from in the fifth season. As expected Daredevils have been extraordinary this season having registered 11 wins off 16 matches.
While they missed out a chance to make it to the finals in 2009, after three years, Delhi have got another opportunity to qualify for the finals, as they play CSK in the second qualifier at M A Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.
A win at Chennai, ensures Delhi a berth in IPL 5 final, while Chennai on the other hand, are known for their unpredictable wins, being a strong team, has gained momentum with the win against Mumbai Indians. They would look forward to win today's tie and fancy their chances in the summit clash and win the title for the third consecutive time.
Having lost an opportunity in 2009, Delhi look forward to pull this one and qualify for their maiden IPL final. Definitely, a sensational game of cricket on cards, as it is the clash of the titans.
