Lahore, Jun 5: Pakistan pacer Sohail Tanvir, who impressed everyone with his performance in the two T20 Internationals against Sri Lanka in Hambantota, has been retained for the upcoming One-day internationals against Lanka that is scheduled to begin in Pallekele on Thursday.
The fast bowler is expected to replace the injured opening batsman Nasir Jamshed, who bowled extremely well in the two T20 matches held at Hambantota which also earned him the man of the series award.
Chief Selector Iqbal Qasim has admitted that the National Selection Committee recommended the inclusion of Sohail Tanvir in the limited overs format. Meanwhile PCB Chairman has also approved the replacement.
"In view of the request from the team management and keeping in consideration the current form of Sohail Tanvir, the selection committee has decided that he may be retained for the ODIs in Sri Lanka." Qasim said.
The opening batsman who had been named in the ODI and T20 squad, was ruled out of the ODI series against Sri Lanka after he fractured his left index finger. PCB had not named the replacement then but considered Tanvir for ODI series after his impressive performance in Twenty20 Internationals.
The fast bowler last represented Pakistan in the limited overs format during the tour of Bangladesh in December 2011 but had failed to claim wickets haivng played two matches.
The pacer who has signed up with English county Worcestershire after December 2011, would miss the first two matches of the season's Friends Life T20.
