New Delhi, Jun 18: MS Dhoni's men will be playing five One day internationals and a one-off T20 International against Sri Lanka in the month of July.
Sources in BCCI confirm that Sri Lankan Cricket was interested in playing a full fledged series against India, including a short series. Due to hectic schedule, BCCI could accomodate ODI series and T20 alone, than a Test series against Lanka next month.
"These matches will be ideal for the Indian team, especially, at a time when the World T20 is around the corner in Sri Lanka itself," a top BCCI official confirmed.
With Sri Lanka playing Pakistan and India ahead of the T20 WC, the team can gain confidence well ahead of September's mega event to be hosted by The Islanders. Australia and Pakistan are also scheduled to play three T20s in the month of July ahead of the mega event.
It remains to be seen if Sachin Tendulkar is interested to play the ODI series against Sri Lanka as he has not given any confirmation on his availability for the forthcoming series after scoring his 100th ton in the Asia Cup in February this year.
The ODI series is scheduled to begin in the third week of July while India also play a two match Test series at home against New Zealand in the month of August before leaving to Sri Lanka again for ICC World T20.
