New Delhi, Jun 26: Selection committee to meet in the first week of July to pick the squad for India's upcoming tour of Sri Lanka as they play a five-match ODI series and a one-off T20 in July.
"The selection committee is to meet in the first week of July, but the exact date and venue are yet to be finalised," said a Cricket Board source on Monday.
With Virender Sehwag making himself available for selection, it will be interesting to see the Delhi dasher back in the team as he was rested on fitness grounds for Asia Cup in March 2012.
His IPL 5 stint would have given him the much needed confidence as the right-handed batsman smashed 495 runs off 16 matches to help his IPL team Delhi Daredevils to reach the semi-final stage.
Since India is playing the five match ODI series and a one-off T20 in Sri Lanka, the venue for the forthcoming T20 World Cup, selectors are keen on selecting a young side keeping in view the mega event that is round the corner as it would give the players time to get adjusted to the conditions in Sri Lanka.
The five match ODI series is scheduled between July 22 and August 4 followed by a lone T20 on August 7 at the Pallekele Stadium.
Interestingly, this will be Indian Cricket team's first assignment since their disappointing campaign at the Asia Cup as Bangladesh and Pakistan made it to the finals while India and Sri Lanka both were knocked out of the tournament in the league stages.
