Having claimed the No 1 title twice including Tests and T20s, it would be a dream come true for England to be the undisputed kings of World cricket if they can beat the current ODI champions, Australia who are placed at No 1 with 123 points, whereas England are placed fourth with 112 rating points.
If England are able to beat Australia in the ODI tour and claim the first spot, it will become the first team to achieve that as none of the teams have done it before.
"Being No.1 would be a nice prize. But we're going to have to be at our absolute best to try to win the series. Getting to No.1 would be an amazing achievement. We're going alright, we've done well at home and we're used to our conditions. Hopefully we can use that as an advantage," admitted Cook.
"I think we are progressing as a team and people are starting to feel comfortable in their roles in the set up. We've got a really good test of ourselves now," he said.
It is not going to be a cake-walk for the English team since Michael Clarke's side will definitely pose a threat to their dreams as they might convey a few things.
Cook also felt that since England are playing at home, it would act as an added advantage.
"It's important to have a fortress because it shows we are comfortable playing in our own conditions and we should be stronger," he said.
