London, Jul 2: Captain Mithali Raj led from the front, with an unbeaten knock of 94 as Indian women ended England women's seven-match winning run in One Day Internationals on Sunday.
India took a 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI series. India, chasing a target of 230 at Lord's, completed the match losing five wickets with three balls remaining.
There was some anxious moments for Indian captain and her team when England took two wickets in three balls. But Mithali stayed till the end and took the team home.
Apart from the right-handed Mithali, there were two more half centuries for India. Right-hand opener Poonam Raut made 60 while Harmanpreet Kaur, also right-handed, contributed 50 runs to the chase.
Mithali, who arrived at the crease at number three position, batted for 111 balls for her 94 not out. She hit six boundaries.
After the early dismissal of Mona Meshram, Mithali and Raut added 106 runs for the second wicket. Mithali later associated with Kaur for 89 runs for the third wicket.
Raut hit five fours in her 105-ball 60 while Kaur had one six and four fours in her 51-ball 50 knock.
Earlier, Arran Brindle topscored for England with 58 as the team posted 229 all out in 49.1 overs.
Nagarajan Niranjana was brilliant with the ball. She opened the bowling and in her 10-over spell had three wickets for 28 runs. She bowled three maidens. Archana Das took four wickets but was expensive in her 9.1 overs. She conceded 61 runs.
The secod ODI will be held on July 4 in Tauton.
