New Delhi, Jul 3: India's Virender Sehwag who was rested for the Asia Cup in March 2012, on fitness grounds, has said that he has undergone fitness test at National Cricket Academy and the physios have assessed him.
There were speculations on Sehwag's fitness, as he was nursing a shoulder injury which was one of the reasons for resting him for the Asia Cup in March 2012.
But, the Delhi opener being rested for the Asia Cup after being a part of the Australian tour, played the cash-rich Indian Premier League and also came out with flying colours as he had three fifties to his credit. He had scored 495 runs off 16 matches, which raised speculations on his fitness and there could be more into the sacking of Sehwag from the Asia Cup.
Virender Sehwag was involved in a verbal spat with MS Dhoni during India's tour Down Under and his poor form with the bat might have been the reasons for resting the Delhi opener.
It was quite predictable that Sehwag would make a comeback soon as he has a good record in the sub-continent and playing against Sri Lanka this month would provide the entire team the much needed practice and preparation for the upcoming ICC World T20 to be held in the Island of Pearl, in September.
After undergoing training at the National Cricket Academy, Sehwag has claimed that the fitness test conducted by the physios and the concerned report will be submitted to the selection committee ahead of their selection process on Wednesday.
"I have been to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) where I have gone through fitness test. The report of the physios will be submitted to the selection committee. Lets wait and watch," Sehwag told mediapersons at a promotional event on Tuesday.
With the selection committee due to pick the Indian cricket team on Wednesday, looks like Virender Sehwag is a certainty as he has made himself available for the series against Sri Lanka.
Now the big question that leaves everyone pondering is everything fine with the skipper and the Delhi opener?
