Mumbai, Jul 4: As the selection committee meet to pick the Indian team for the tour of Sri Lanka, Ajinkya Rahane is a certainty following a fantastic season which would force the selectors to pick the 24 year old for the five-match ODI series and one-off T20 against The Islanders.
After a successful stint with Rajasthan Royals in the fifth edition of Indian Premier League, Ajinkya Rahane is the first choice and would be the third opener after Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir.
Rahane impressed everyone with a fabulous performance in the fifth edition of IPL which included a century and three fifties by the 24 year old in the cash-rich league. He was fourth highest run-scorer in IPL 5 with 560 runs off 16 matches, at an average of 40.
When quizzed a BCCI source whether the Rajasthan Royals player would be picked for the tour of Sri Lanka, the source did express the possibility of him being picked followed by his consistent performance.
"Rahane has been doing consistently well in all forms of the game recently and it's high time he gets a look-in," a BCCI source told Mid-day.
Rahane has represented India in 11 ODIs and has scored 340 runs at an average of over 30 with a highest score of 91. Though Rahane has not got many opportunities, the 24 year old has made the selectors pick him putting up a consistent show whenever he has got an opportunity.
With a commendable performance against West Indies A in the Carribean, Ajinkya Rahane certainly looks like touring 'the island of pearl' later this month.
