Mumbai, Jul 4: There are rumours about India's pace spearhead Zaheer Khan opting out of the five match ODI series against Sri Lanka, while there is a possibility of Sachin Tendulkar touring the Island of Pearl ahead of the team selection, but a clear picture is awaited.
If Zaheer opts out of the tour, then the selectors can either pick five bowlers - Umesh Yadav, Irfan Pathan, Praveen Kumar, Ashok Dinda and Vinay Kumar who have done a decent job in the last few matches or spot new talent.
If BCCI are keen on including youngsters, in order to focus on ICC World T20 which is also happening in Sri Lanka later this year, would see rookies Shami Ahmed or Akshay Daredar making it to the ODI squad.
Though the previous one will not be the first option as Ravindra Jadeja might retain his place even after a disappointing season, since he is an experienced player when compared to the rookies, which would mean they have to wait until the T20 WC to wear the India cap.
Moreover, it is unlikely to include Harbhajan Singh in the squad, as there are three spinners with two regulars doing really well for India in the last couple of years. Harbhajan's stint at Essex would help him make a comeback for the T20 World Cup.
