London, Jul 5: England have rested Graeme Swann and added Warwickshire pace bowler Chris Woakes and Kent off-spinner James Tredwell to their squad for the remaining two matches in the five-match ODI Series against Australia.
Swann is being rested for the final two fixtures to allow him an opportunity to overcome discomfort in his right elbow ahead of the Test series against South Africa beginning in a fortnight, a media release from England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said on Thursday.
England's National Selector, Geoff Miller, said: "We had earmarked the fourth and fifth matches in this series as an opportunity to rest Graeme regardless of the result at Edgbaston as we have to consider our preparations for the Investec Test series later this month. Graeme has some pain in his elbow at the moment and we feel that an extra week's rest will allow his elbow to settle. Chris Woakes replaces Jade Dernbach in the squad who has been ruled out with a side strain.
"We have played some very good cricket in the last week to lead this NatWest Series 2-0 and will need to continue that form if we are to win our seventh straight series on home soil."
Samit Patel has been released to play for Notts Outlaws in the Friends Life T20 fixture against Yorkshire Carnegie on Friday and Jonny Bairstow will be available for Yorkshire's fixtures on Thursday and on Friday against Lancashire Lightning at Old Trafford. Both players will return to the squad ahead of the fourth ODI at Emirates Durham ICG on Saturday.
England lead the series 2-0. They won the opening two games while the third was abandoned due to rain n Wednesday.
England squad: Alastair Cook (captain), James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Stuart Broad, Steven Finn, Craig Kieswetter, Eoin Morgan, Samit Patel, James Tredwell, Jonathan Trott, Chris Woakes.
