Mumbai, Jul 7: BCCI has nominated World Cup winning hero Yuvraj Singh's name for the Arjuna award this year, after the Sports Ministry extended the date to file nominations for the award till July 20. The stylish left-hander who is recovering from a rare germ cell cancer has been nominated for the prestigious award by the BCCI following his contribution to Indian cricket and his role in India's World Cup win last year.
He was adjudged the man of the tournament for having scored 362 runs off 9 matches at an average of 90.5 with a highest score of 113 was the eighth highest run-scorer in the tenth edition of the World Cup.
Though Virat Kohli's name was tipped for the Arjuna Award following his prolific form in ODIs, BCCI's decision to nominate Yuvraj Singh for the prestigious award is commendable and was predictable as the left-handed batsman's contribution was huge last year, though he could not play the limited overs format after the World Cup due to health issues.
This nomination would definitely serve as a morale booster for the flamboyant batman who is eyeing ICC World T20 to make a comeback.
