Chennai, Jul 18: Indian team to leave for Sri Lanka today for the five match ODI series and a lone T20 International against 'The Islanders' which is slated to begin on Saturday. The 15-member squad for the ODI tour of Sri Lanka will be leaving on Wendesday afternoon as their first ODI is scheduled to be played at Hambantota on July 21.
The team was in Chennai for a few days for a training camp which was unfortunately cut short by rain, as they underwent long training sessions after a long break from international cricket.
Having enjoyed the break, Indian players are expected to fire in the first series of the season and start with a winning note as the conditions in Lanka are similar to India.
"We know the Sri Lankan conditions well so we want to start the season with good results," said the Indian captain at a press conference on Tuesday.
Though it looks quite positive, it is time for Duncan Fletcher to come up with results as he has been there since 15 months now and the team has witnessed back to back defeats against England and Australia, which were quite humiliating as they lost 8 consecutive Tests overseas.
India playing only ODIs, also need to prove their critics wrong as they have hardly registered a series win in the last one year, as they lost to England and Australia in the ODI series as well. Moreover, they were knocked out of the Asia Cup in the league stage which was another disaster.
After those debacles, India is starting the series afresh as they hope to start with a win to keep the momentum going for the rest of the tours coming up later this year.
