Hambantota, Jul 23: Sri Lanka named Nuwan Pradeep in the squad for the remaining matches in the on-going ODI series as replacement for the injured Nuwan Kulasekara, who was ruled out of the ODI series against India.
The right-arm bowler, Pradeep is expected to join the squad on Monday ahead of the second ODI against India on Tuesday, chairman of selectors, Ashanta de Mel said.
"He has been part of the Sri Lanka A team that took part in the one-day tri-series in Zimbabwe and having played against Pakistan in the recent test series we thought he will be the most likely replacement," de Mel said.
Nuwan Pradeep who has played three Test matches against Pakistan, awaits his ODI debut, as the series against India would fulfil his dream, having replaced Nuwan Kulasekara in the squad.
Kulasekara suffered an injury during the first ODI against India in Hambantota on Saturday while he attempted to take a catch offered by Virender Sehwag in the 11th over.
During his attempt to take the catch, he dived to pouch the delivery, but injured his groin but all his efforts were in vain, as the TV replays could not suggest whether the catch was taken clearly and the result went in favour of the batsman.
Virender Sehwag was on 24, while he got a life from Kulasekara and went on to score a match-winning 96, to help India win the match by 21 runs.
While the second ODI is scheduled to be played on Tuesday at Hambantota, Nuwan Pradeep awaits his ODI debut.
