Bangalore, Jul 24: Team India would look to capitalise on Sri Lanka's weankess while they take on field on Tuesday for the second ODI at Hambantota and will ensure that they seal another victory to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
Returning from a three-month break, Team India played fabulously to register their first win in the series by 21 runs, by restricting Sri Lanka to 293/9 after posting a mammoth 314/6.
Though the hosts fought hard, they slipped after the fall of a few wickets, as they lost their goal to go down by 21 runs.
Now, going by current form, India seem to be favourites ahead of the second ODI, while statistics favour Sri Lanka as the hosts have a good record playing at home.
In order to ensure another victory Indian team needs to concentrate on a few things. Here are fove suggestions that might help the Indian team to emerge victorious.
* Gautam Gambhir, who had a wonderful IPL stint needs some runs to gain confidence, as Virender Sehwag and his Delhi team mate Gambhir have been doing a fabulous job at the top order and they need to fire. A good start from the openers will set the tone for the rest of the players.
*It would be nice to see how Ajinkya Rahane performs after a fantastic IPL 5 stint with Rajasthan Royals. It would be ideal to play Rahane than making him sit on the bench. Rohit Sharma, though was given an opportunity, couldn't capitalise on it and could make way for the talented Rahane.
* Batting seems to be India's strength, while bowling at death is definitely a nightmare for all the Indian bowlers. Concentrating on bowling during the death and conceding less runs would release a lot of pressure from the Men in Blue, as all the opponents have learnt the art of scoring runs even when the asking rate is over 10 especially against a weak Indian attack.
* Most importantly, India need to focus on getting the in-form Kumar Sangakkara who seems to be on a record-breaking spree as he was at his best while playing against Pakistan in Tests and has continued his good form to ODI fold as well. His century knock against India in the first ODI was enough to prove that he could be a dangerous batsman. It would be ideal to get rid of Sangakkara at the earliest.
* Apart from bowling and batting, fielding has not been great, which might result in a few over-throws, mis-fielding which is bound to increase the pressure on the fielding side. Moreover India need to keep a track on the number of overs bowled every hour, which happens to pose a threat to the Men in Blue as Dhoni is fined for slow over rate quite often these days.
If Team India can concentrate on a few things and experiment with the team, they can seal another victory as Sri Lanka are facing more worries than the visitors in terms of injuries and pressure of playing at home.
