London, Jul 24: Cricket South Africa congratulated the team for their convincing victory over England in the first Test at the Oval on Monday.
It was a memorable Test match as the Proteas won the match by an innings and 12 runs after declaring their first innings on 637 on a day earlier.
While it was Hashim Amla's knock that caught every individual's eye during South Africa's batting, it was the lanky pacer Dale Steyn's magic that won South Africa the match as he walked away with 5 wickets to rip through the England batting order.
Though Cricket South Africa's acting CEO Jacques Faul was happy with the performance, he said it was far from over.
"There is still much work to be done to clinch the series. But this is a moment to celebrate what has been a wonderful team performance of high quality and intensity," he said while lauding the efforts of Hashim Amla, Graeme Smith, Jacques Kallis and Steyn in particular.
Talking about the performances of the players, Graeme Smith's century in his 100th Test, Kallis' amazing 183 and Amla's 311 were enough to show that English bowlers had faced the heat and it was batsmen who had to face it later on.
Cricket South Africa lauded the team's efforts as the acting CEO also praised Gary Kirsten for his leadership skills, as it all happened because of the former South African batsman.
"Taking things day by day has become a hallmark of the team under the leadership of Gary Kirsten," he said while commenting on how the rest of the series needs to be negotiated as well
