Pallekele, Aug 4: Sri Lanka, known for their fighting spirit have ensured that the team has won the final ODI in 2008 and 2009 against India. Having lost the series 3-1, Lanka face a similar situation. Can they pull off a win on Saturday to make it three in a row?
The last two series against India have also been memorable as India have registered a series win in 2008 and 2009. Though Lanka lost a series on both occasions, they played for pride in the final ODIs on both occasions.
While Lankans posted 227/6 in the last ODI against India in 2008, hosts recorded a 112-run victory after restricting India to a paltry 103. Lanka had lost the series 3-1 ahead of the 5th ODI, as they won it to make it 3-2.
Similarly, Lanka also won the last match against India on their next tour in 2009, having lost the series 4-0 to make it 4-1.
With stats favouring hosts, especially when they are playing at home, can they pull it off and stop India from claiming the second spot in ICC ODI rankings?
