Bangalore, Aug 6: Will Bosisto has been named as the captain of the Australian Under-19 side that will compete at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Queensland from August 11 to 26. Kurtis Patterson has been named as vice-captain of the squad.
Bosisto previously captained the side at the Quad Series in Townsville in April of this year, a Cricket Australia (CA) media release said on Monday.
The 18-year-old said it was a huge honour to be chosen as captain of his country.
"I'm really looking forward to the challenges this job presents and the opportunity I have been given and hopefully I can do it to the best of my ability," Bosisto said.
"Playing at home can sometimes add a little bit of extra pressure but we have spoken about that as a team and hopefully we can use it as an advantage over other sides that may not be as used to our conditions."
Bosisto said his vice-captain Patterson was a great player and leader.
"We both work together well out on the field and bounce ideas off each other, I think our styles complement each other well and hopefully this will lead to the best outcome for the team," he said.
National Talent Manager Greg Chappell said the team was fortunate to have two very good captains in a group that is served well with leaders.
"Will has been emerged in the national programme as a natural leader and is a very positive and intuitive captain. He has a natural way with people and is well respected by his teammates who respond well to his assertive leadership," Chappell said.
"Along with Kurtis, who is a calm and confident leader, these two standout in what is a strong group of young talented cricketers," he said.
The Australian Under-19 team will play warm-up matches against the West Indies on 7 August in Sunshine Coast and Scotland on 8 August in Brisbane in preparation for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in Queensland from 11-26 August.
The Australia U19 World Cup squad is: Ashton Agar, Cameron Bancroft, William Bosisto (captain), Meyrick Buchanan, Harry Conway, Sam Hain, Travis Head, Joel Paris, Kurtis Patterson (vice-captain), James Peirson, Gurinder Sandhu, Mark Steketee, Nicholas Stevens, Ashton Turner, Jack Wildermuth.
