SLPL: Injured Gayle, Sanga to be missed

Colombo, Aug 9: As the inaugural edition of Sri Lanka Premier League kicks off on Friday, there seems to be a poor turnout from fans following an over dose of cricket.

Moreover, the main reason for people not turning up for the domestic T20 event, is due to the absence of key players Chris Gayle, Shakib al Hasan and Kumar Sangakkara, following injuries.

However, one of the fans from Colombo feels that lack of advertising, awareness about the inaugural league also has played a vital role in poor turn out, as ticket sales are not good.

"Pakistan players are all around, nobody cares,it was the same when Indian players were around. Overdose of cricket could be one of the reasons," said a fan from Colombo.

"Nobody knows when it (SLPL) is starting, no advertisements and since it is starting immediately after India-Sri Lanka series nobody seems to be interested", he added.

Gayle, Shakib al Hasan and Kuamr Sangakkara, all the three stars who had to participate in the first edition of Sri Lanka Premier League had to pull out due to injuries which might be another reason for a poor ticket sales.

With the opening ceremony scheduled on Friday night, the response is very poor, which literally suggests that the domestic T20 event with 7 teams participating in the tournament, would not receive a positive response.
