Kingston, Aug 10: Most explosive batsman, Chris Gayle is ruled out of Sri Lanka Premier League following a groin injury.
The Jamaican storm known for his explosive batting, was one of the top draws, as he was named the icon player and captain of Uva Next.
Uva Next, having signed the Jamaican for a term of three years, will not get the services of the most explosive batsman and the best T20 specialist in the World for the inaugural edition of Sri Lanka Premier League as a groin injury forced him to pull out of the tournament.
With the tournament expected to start from Aug 11, as the opening ceremony is scheduled on Aug 10 the team faces a major blow as it will be playing the entire season without its star batsman.
Gayle, who suffered a groin injury during the Bangladesh Premier League in February this year, he had to miss the domestic T20 league (T20 Challenge) in South Africa where he was assigned to play for Dolphins and also missed a couple of games for his IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The injury surfaced again during the Test series against New Zealand in Jamaica last week which forced Gayle to take a break from international cricket.
The cricketer who recently made a comeback to the national side, relied only on domestic leagues at various countries after the World Cup last year, following some issues with the West Indies Cricket Board which was sorted out recently prior to the West Indies' tour of England.
