Mumbai, Aug 10: Former India skipper and ex-committee chief Dilip Vengsarkar also feels Bengal batsman Manoj Tiwary should be given more opportunities to perform in the Indian Team.
Despite Rohit's poor form, selectors have banked on him on a plenty of occasions and the outcome has not been satisfying.
Though Manoj Tiwary has got limited opportunities, the Bengal batsman has proved that he deserves a place in the team on many occasions. Despite his good form, he was ignored as Rohit Sharma was given more chances to cement his place in the team.
Vengsarkar also feels that the Bengal batsman needs to given a long rope given his impressive performance in the matches that he has got to play.
"Rohit has failed for too long. I think Manoj Tiwary should have got the nod straightaway when Rohit was struggling," Vengsarkar told reporters at a promotional event on Thursday.
Though he defended Rohit, said he has the potential and is capable of doing much better, but Rohit has been struggling for long and time has come to give opportunities to others.
"He is a fine player and there is no question about his abilities but he has failed for too long. But he has to convert potential into performance. Tiwary has proven himself with both bat and ball. If Rohit is struggling for so long then opportunities should be given to others," he added.
Talking about Tiwary during a promotional event Vengsarkar said "Tiwary has done extremely well and I think he should get more opportunities."
