Mumbai, Aug 10: As the selectors meet at Mumbai to pick the Test squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand, they are also planning to select the final squad for the T20 World Cup that is scheduled to be played in September.
According to the sources, Yuvraj Singh who has not played international cricket since the ICC World Cup last year, after being disgnosed with a rare germ cell cancer is all set to make a return to the T20 side, after undergoing treatment and rehabilitation.
Since the event starts on September 18, selectors are hoping to pick Yuvraj Singh for the World Cup but all depends on the fitness certificate given by the National Cricket Academy.
It is also learnt that he will be picked for the two T20s against New Zealand at home on Sep 8 and 11.
According to the sources at NCA, Yuvraj's fitness has already been assessed and has been deemed fit. Moreover, he has proved that he has adequate stamina as he has played a few practice matches recently and has been working out hard at the NCA in Bangalore.
While Rohit Sharma's inlcusion depends on the selectors, following his poor form as Manoj Tiwary after performing well in the last two ODIs and T20, is all set to retain his place, while its tough for Rohit to retain his spot.
Similarly Laxmipathy Balaji, who had a wonderful season playing the cash-rich IPL, and Vinay Kumar might fight it out for the fifth slot for bowlers as Zaheer Khan, Ashok Dinda, Irfan Pathan and Unesh Yadav will retain their berths.
With the fifth bowler's slot is up for pacers to grab, R Ashwin beign the first choice, Pragyan Ojha/Piyush Chawla/Rahul Sharma might take up the other spinner's slot, which suggests that Indians will have only two specialist spinners in the squad.
Ajinkya Rahane also has chances to make it to the squad as he has been fabulous throughout the season, as he excelled for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 5.
With these possibilities we need to wait for a few more hours to get the final squad from the BCCI, as they meet at Mumbai to pick the team for both T20 World Cup and series against New Zealand.
