Bangalore, Aug 16: Australia have named Alister McDermott as replacement for Clint McKay in the One Day International squad of the UAE after McKay suffered a hamstring strain in the first practice match during the Player Camp in Darwin.
Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said in a Cricket Australia media release: "Clint sustained a hamstring strain during the first intra-squad practice match in Darwin and will not recover in time to play in the one-day component of the series in the UAE. He will be reassessed over the week to determine his availability for the T20 component of the UAE tour against Pakistan."
Commenting on McDermott's inclusion, National Selector John Inverarity said: "Alister McDermott, the 21-year-old fast-medium bowler from Queensland, has been selected as McKay's replacement.
Alister was impressive in all formats last summer and bowled very well for Australia A against Durham last week. He is a very fit and disciplined young man who bowls with good sense and good control."
