Bangalore, Aug 22: There were speculations that VVS Laxman did not enjoy the support of India captain MS Dhoni. And to suggest that all is not well between the two, the captain was not invited by Laxman to his house dinner when the Hyderabadi decided to host Sachin Tendulkar and others on Wednesday.
On the eve of the first Test between India and New Zealand in Hyderabad, Dhoni was asked by a journalist at a press conference whether he was invited by Laxman to his house. The captain's reply was "No."
Dhoni's answer would obviously indicate to something wrong between the batsman and the wicketkeeper.
Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Zaheer Khan went to Laxman's house and had dinner.
Tendulkar had tweeted: "Went to VVS Laxman's house to have dinner. It is always special to meet him. Such a wonderful guy, so simple and down to earth..."
When Laxman announced his retirement from international cricket last Saturday, he had stated that he tried contacting Dhoni on phone but was not reachable.
Dhoni defended himself on Wednesday saying: "You think it's a controversy but people who know me always complained that I'm someone who is quite difficult to get hold of. That was one of the reasons why Laxmanbhai could not get hold of me. That's not something new. I have tried to improve but it seems I have not really improved."
"A skipper should be available for his players 24 hours. I don't know why Dhoni does this... But I think the situation would have been different if Laxman had got Dhoni's support," Ganguly had said.
