Noida, Sep 1: India's Unmukt Chand who led his team to its third U-19 World Cup title, has said that he is inspired by India's latest batting sensation Virat Kohli, who is also from Delhi, as Chand considers him as a role model.
Kohli, who was a part of the team that won the U-19 World Cup in 2008, has now been one of the best batsmen in the team currently, having proved his worth in the team.
Being a consistent performer, Sachin Tendulkar has also tipped him as a competitor for challenging his 100 international hundreds.
"I look upto Virat for inspiration. He is a role model for all U-19 cricketers. He has shown us and given us confidence that we all can work hard and move up the grade. From being an U-19 World Cup captain to being India vice-captain, he has been phenomenal," Unmukt told PTI on Friday.
Unmukt also added that he feels inspired when he watches Kohli bat, especially the innings against Sri Lanka at Hobart, as he also called up the Delhi-lad and asked for some tips on how to prepare for the World Cup which was hosted by Australia.
"Just after Virat scored that brilliant hundred at Hobart against Sri Lanka, I called him up in Australia to know about certain aspects of my batting. I was getting out for 30's and 40's and was really worried," said Unmukt.
"So I called up Virat, asked him what exactly should I do? Is it mental thing that I need to sort out? as Virat told me that I should plan for the next ball rather than looking too far ahead," Unmukt stated.
Unmukt reveals that Virat's tips definitely helped him as he scored a beautiful hundred against Australia in the final to help India lift its third U-19 World Cup at Townsville.
