Karnataka win Buchi Babu Trophy

Chennai, Sep 4: It was a thrilling low-scoring affair and Karnataka held their nerve to win the Buchi Babu Memorial Trophy by defeating Kerala on Sunday.

Chasing 138 for victory, Karnataka, the defending champions, retained the title by three wickets.

Robin Uthappa and KB Pawan were the top scorers for the team with 32 runs apiece. CM Gautam and K Gowtham contributed 27 and 22 respectively.

Kerala were bowled out for 137 in 61.2 overs. Left-arm spinner KP Appanna took four wickets for 35 runs while Abhimanyu Mithun scalped three.

Karnataka reached the target in 33.3 overs. The wining team received Rs 1 lakh cheque while Kerala got Rs 50,000.

Meanwhile, Sunil Raju has been named Karnataka captain in the Moin-ud-Dowlah Gold Cup to be held in Hyderabad from September 6-16.
