India-NZ match abandoned due to rain

Visakhapatnam, Sep 8: Rain forced the abandonment of the first Twenty20 International between India and New Zealand here at the ACA-VDCA Stadium on Saturday. The match was called off without a ball bowled and there was no chance for toss as well.

Rain continued to come down and the official confirmation from the umpires came at 8.15 PM local time. It was a huge disappointment for over 25,000 fans who had braved rain and turned up at the stadium.

Yuvraj Singh had brought the fans to the stadium but they could not watch their favourite cricketer in action. However, Yuvraj was honoured by the local association on his comeback. Later, he took a lap of honour around the ground to acknowledge the crowd support.

The second and final T20I of this short series is in Chennai on Tuesday, September 11.

Yuvraj has been the cynosure of all eyes as he returns to cricket after winning his battle against a rare germ cell cancer. He has to wait for some more time.
