Bangalore, Sep 11: Former India captain Rahul Dravid will receive the "Best Sportsperson (Male)" award from Sports Writers' Association of Bangalore (SWAB) on Wednesday (September 12).
SWAB, which honours Karnataka's best sports persons every year at their annual awards ceremony, has this time chosen Dravid for the top honour for the year 2011. Dravid retired from international cricket in March.
SWAB awards are given to outstanding sportspersons in a calendar year, from Karnataka.
Badminton star Ashwini Ponnappa has won the "Best Sportsperson (Female). Ashwini, who took part in London Olympics recently, had teamed up with Jwala Gutta in the women's doubles. The same pair won Commonwealth Games gold in 2010.
Former India batsman GR Viswanath has been chose for lifetime achievement award.
