New Delhi, Sep 15: Former India skipper Kapil Dev feels Team India would find it difficult to win the World T20 this year in Sri Lanka especially after struggling against New Zealand in the T20 international at Chennai on Tuesday.
The Worldl Cup winning captain going by his instinct, said it would be very difficult for Team India this time around, as they have a lot of competition from other teams.
Moreover, with the way they played the last T20 International, things are not going to be easy for Team India, especially for MS Dhoni, who has been criticised for his batting approach.
"My heart says something and mind says something else. My heart says that India will win the World Cup and my cricketing brain thinks that they will find it very difficult. The way they played in the last T20 against New Zealand is not a good sign ahead of such an important tournament," Kapil said during a promotional event on Friday.
Having lost a game that could have been won, India missed out on a few opportunities, which is not a good sign, siad Kapil Dev.
"India lost from a winning position and one cannot let go opportunities just like that. A team can lose confidence if they are defeats like these," Kapil added.
"Getting off to a good start in the tournament will be a key thing and then should think about the later part of the tournament," he added.
Team India is banking on batting, and moreover its not the only team that has match-winners, as every team boasts of having a few match-winners.
Kapil did feel India should avoid complacency in order to suceed in World T20.
"India's biggest strength is the batting. Every team has 1-2 match winning batsmen, but India have around 5-6 batsmen who can turn the match all by themselves. But then, they will have to avoid complacency," he said.
Moreover, he felt every one has superstitions and it should not surface at this level, as only performance counts on the day of the match, said Kapil after BCCI asked Team India to wear the 2011 World Cup jersey for World T20.
