MCA to start T20 league: Ravi Savant

Mumbai, Sep 15: Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has decided to start a T20 league, its President Ravi Savant announced on Friday.

"With the introduction of T20, there is additional avenue for cricketers to make good living. MCA intends to start Mumbai T20 Prestige League (MTPL)," he said at a meeting with MCA's member-clubs here.

"However, taking into consideration the legal complications involved with individual sponsors, player commitments and tax exemption of the association, we have to formulate a structure," he said, adding that it can be started only next year.

"We have to formulate a structure which will be done as early as possible with a proper legal framework and finding a clear window for the tournament in the new tournament structure of MCA," Savant said.

He also promised the MCA member-clubs to increase their subsidy to Rs. 3,000 per match from the current Rs. 1,500.

He said MCA will set up a new museum to showcase Mumbai cricket's long and glorious history. "We shall form a new museum committee involving some experts and the work will start immediately," Savant said.
