WT20: Dananjaya, youngest T20 player for Sri Lanka

Bangalore, Sep 28: Sri Lanka's Akila Dananjaya impressed everyone on debut as he claimed two wickets against New Zealand during the Super Eights clash at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

The 18 year old is the youngest T20 International player for Sri Lanka, and is the only Sri Lankan player to have claimed a wicket in the first over of his career, as he picked a wicket off his third ball of his international T20 career.

Dananjana also became the 47th player to play T20 Internationals for Sri Lanka.

Moreover, his 2/32 is considered to be the third best on T20I debut, as Muttaiah Muralitharan had recorded 2/27 in 2006, while Ajantha Mendis had recorded 4/15 in 2008 on debut.

Mahamarakkala Kurukulasooriya Patabendige Akila Dananjaya Perera alias Akila Dananjaya, has played 6 T20 matches earlier for Wayamba United and has picked 9 wickets at an amazing strike rate of 14.6 with a best being 3/18 against Nagenahira also at Pallekele on 20th August 2012 in the inaugural edition of Sri Lanka Premier League.

The off-spinner is capable of delivering leg-break, googly, carrom ball, doosra with utmost control. After being picked for the preliminary World T20 squad, had to face a lot of questions but he impressed the skipper Mahela Jayawardene at the nets, and there was no looking back for this 18 year old who will be turning 19 on Oct 4, 2012.
