Colombo, Oct 1: Shane Watson's brilliant ICC World Twenty20 2012 continued as he once again put in a fine all-round show to pilot Australia to a comfortable eight-wicket victory over South Africa in their Super Eight game here at R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.
Watson first took two wickets for 29 runs as Australia restricted the Proteas to 146/5 in 20 overs. When he walked out to bat as an opener, Watson smashed a 47-ball 70 as Australia reached the target in 17.4 overs.
Watson is now the leading run-scorer and wickte-taker in the tournament. He has 10 wickets and has so far scored 234 runs.
Left-arm spinner Xavier Doherty, playing his first match in the tournament, in place of Dan Christian, was the pick of Australian bowlers. He had returns of 3/20 in four overs opening the bowling.
Watson picked up his fourth successive Man-of-the-match award in the tournament. The way he is going, the is a strong contender for Player of the series honour.
This was second straight win for Australia in Super Eight. They have almost sealed a spot in semi-finals.
Australia won the toss and sent South Africa to bat first.
Xavier Doherty came in place of Dan Christian for Australia. South Africa brought in Wayne Parnell for Albie Morkel.
