Colombo, Oct 8: Australia's Shane Watson, was named the player of the tournament on Sunday after the thrilling final at Premadasa Stadium in Colombo as West Indies defeated Sri Lanka by 36 runs during the title clash of World T20 2012.
The Australian all-rounder deserved the player of the tournament award as he had scored 249 runs at an average of 49.80 and had also claimed 11 wickets to help his team reach the semifinals of World T20 2012.
Shane Watson, who played a crucila role in his team's success, collected the trophy on Sunday after West Indies won the prestigious World T20 trophy by defeating Sri Lanka in the final by 36 runs.
Interestingly, Watson was named the man of the match four times during the tournament, which also suggests that he was a consistent performer for his team.
"Although we didn't quite reach our team goal of winning this tournament, on a personal note it's an honour to be named as the player of the tournament."
"Going into the tournament, I knew that if we could get our batting innings off to a good start it would hold us in good shape and it was nice that I could put on a few partnerships with Dave Warner and Mike Hussey and to pick up a few wickets and play a role with the ball was great too."
