New Delhi, Oct 9: India's dashing opener who was advised to take rest for two weeks following an ankle injury, is declared fit to play for Delhi Daredevils in the Champions League T20 that is starting in Johannesburg from today.
Having stepped down as captain, Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene was appointed as the new skipper of Delhi Daredevils ahead of the Champions League T20.
According to reports, he was advised rest for two weeks during the World T20 after he injured his ankle while celebrating the fall of South Africa's Jacques Kallis in the final Super Eights clash at R Premadasa Stadium on Oct 2.
Within a week's time, Sehwag has been declared fit to play the Champions league T20 which raises a speculation on the fitness of the player.
This is not the only instance in which Sehwag was advised rest and was declared fit ahead of the domestic T20 league, as it was the same when the dashing opener was rested on medical grounds for the Asia Cup that was held at Bangladesh in March 2012, while he was declared fit to play the fifth edition of the cash-rich Indian Premier League.
According to a report on Mail Today, a source confirmed that the Delhi opener is completely fit and if situation demands, might miss the first match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday.
"There's no problem with Sehwag's MRI; it showed no concerning results. He is fit enough to go with the team. He will leave for South Africa in a couple of days," a source told Mail Today.
"He will have another assessment by the DD's support staff in South Africa. At most, he might miss the first match against KKR on Saturday in Centurion," the source added.
Delhi Daredevils are scheduled to play four matches in the group stages starting on Oct 13.
