Johannesburg, Oct 10: Sialkot Stallions, winners of Pakistan's domestic T20 league, playing the qualifying round of Champions League for the first time, lost to Auckland Aces by 6 wickets in the qualifying match at Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, Sialkot Stallions posted a modest 130/9 in 20 overs as Shahid Yousuf (39) was the only batsman who stayed at the crease to give Stallions the much needed push to go past 100, as the team's batting collapsed badly, with the top order contributing just 49 runs.
Auckland Aces' Kyle Mills, Ronnie Hira, Andre Adams claimed two wickets each while Azhar Mahmood, Michael Bates grabbed a wicket each to restrict Sialkot Stallions to 130/9 in 20 overs.
Chasing 131 to win, Martin Guptill and Lou Vincent gave a flying start as they added 32 runs off 3.4 overs as Guptill made a quick fire 40 off 32 balls which included 5 boundaries and a six.
Lou Vincent (20), Azhar Mahmood (24), Anaru Kitchen (33*), Colin Munro (13*) everyone contributed as Auckland Aces easily defeated Sialkot Stallions by 6 wickets.
Mills was awarded the man of the match for his brilliant 2/6 off 4 overs which drastically reduced the run flow in the 19th over, after bolwing the first three overs during his first spell as he conceded just 2 runs off the 19th over and claimed 2 wickets.
With this win, New Zealand's Auckland Aces gain more confidence when they take on Hampshire on Wednesday in their second qualifying match.
