CLT20: Yorkshire beat SL's Uva Next by 5 wickets

Johannesburg, Oct 10: Yorkshire's all-round performance saw them through as they defeated the Srilanka Premier League champions, Uva Next by 5 wickets in the opening qualifying match.

Having won the toss and elected to field, Yorkshire restricted Uva Next to 150/7 in 20 overs. With Moin Ashraf, Steven Patterson claiming two wickets each, Sidebottom, Azeem Rafiq and Adil Rashid managed to take a wicket each to restrict the SLPL champs to 150/7.

Chasing 151 to win, Yorkshire banked on its SOuth-African born cricketer David Miller, who scored an unbeaten 39 to lead the team to a five wicket win in the opening match of the qualifying round of CLT20.

Apart from Miller, Phil Jacques (32), Adil Rashid (36*) helped the team reach the target within 19.3 overs, for the loss of five wickets.

Dilshan Munaweera, picked three wickets for Uva Next to give them a chance to win, as Yorkshire lost its fifth wicket for 133 runs (18.2 overs) while they needed 18 to win off the last 12 balls.

Miller who had left the field while he was on 22 after being hit by Umar Gul's short ball, returned to score 17 more runs to bring the tally to 39 to ensure that the team won the opening match by 5 wickets.

Though the match witnessed a couple of dropped catches, extras and crikceters fumbling on the field, it went on to the wire, as David Miller saved the game for Yorkshire returning after a nasty blow, to score three boundaries to seal the result in Yorkshire's favour.

Adil Rashid was adjudged the man of the match for his 1/25 and a brilliant knock of 36 off 30 balls which made sure that Yorkshire chased the target with ease.
