Neil McKenzie and Quinton de Kock played a vital role in chasing a target of 158 set by Mumbai Indians, as they added 121 runs for the 3rd wicket which guided Lions to an eight-wicket win against Harbhajan Singh-led Mumbai Indians on Sunday.
Quinton de Kock (51*) and Neil McKenzie (68*) scored heavily for Lions after the fall of skipper Petersen and Bodi in the first 7 overs.
Mumbai Indians, defending their Champions League title, failed to create an impact as they posted 157/6 in 20 overs. Apart from Mitchell Johnson (30, Rohit Sharma (27) and Dwayne Smith (26) none of the players stayed at the crease for long, as they got starts which weren't converted into big ones.
Apart from Malinga, none of the bowlers were efficient as Mumbai bowlers leaked too many runs. On the other hand, Dirk Nannes, Aaron Phangiso bowled brilliantly for Lions, as they picked a wicket each conceding just 15 and 17 runs respectively.
Sachin Tendulkar made just 16 as Phangiso dismissed him for 16, in the 9th over of the innings.
With three more matches to go, Mumbai Indians need to improve in all the aspects as they have been outplayed by Lions thoroughly in their first match at Johannesburg.
