Washout puts MI in do-or-die situation

Durban, Oct 19: The group match between Mumbai Indians and Yorkshire yielded no result on Thursday, as heavy rain stopped play during Mumbai's innings, as Harbhajan Singh-led side hope to make it to the semi-finals as they play their next group match against Chennai Super Kings on Saturday.

Put into bat by Yorkshire, Mumbai Indians made 156/6 as Dwayne Smith (37), Kieron Pollard (37) and Rohit Sharma (25) ensured that the team posted a total above 150. Yorkshire's Adil Rashid 2/36, Steven Patterson's 0/12, Sidebottom's 0/17 were the highlights but Mumbai played extremely well to score 156/6 in a rain-hit match.

It first rained when Mumbai were 145/6 in the 17th over, as they took a break and resumed innings after the break to score 11 more runs at the end of 17.5 overs.

After a good start by the openers, Mumbai lost a couple of wickets in the middle, as Rohit Sharma (25), Dinesh Karthik (12) and Rayudu (15) were dismissed very early as Mumbai slipped to 109/5 from 59/2

Though the players got a good start, they failed to stay for a long time at the crease which also played a role in Mumbai posting 156/6 in 17.5 overs, when rain halted play, as they could have posted 20-30 runs more with the kind of start they got early in the innings.

Now, with the match being washed out, Mumbai face a tough situation as they have to win their remaining matches to qualify for the semi-finals.
