New Delhi, Oct 20: Former India skipper Kapil Dev feels the recent form of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir would be a concern for Team India as they are scheduled to play Test series against Australia and England in the coming months.

Sehwag, Gambhir's form a worry: Kapil

The former World Cup winning captain, who was the chief guest for the final of Junior National Tennis Championship felt the team would be in trouble against the two top nations, as the Indian openers are definitely capable of winning matches for the country.

"Of course, it is a cause of worry if players of that calibre don't get runs. They have big reputations and when you have such big reputations then there is a case for you to defend that," Kapil said on the sidelines of the Junior National tennis Championships where he was chief guest for the finals.

Kapil also added that Sehwag and Gambhir's form was very crucial for the team as it would increase team's woes if they aren't performing well.

"They are big players and it is important for them to score runs not only for the team but also for themselves otherwise there will be worrying signs," he added.

Sehwag, having played 9 ODIs in 2012, as scored only 213 runs, with a highest score of 96 at an average of 23.66 while his Test performance is also not great with 252 runs off 5 matches with a highest score of 62 at an average of 28.

Similarly, Ganmbhir who has played 5 Tests, has secured 223 runs at an average of 24.77 with a highest score of 83. His ODI performance is comparitively better than Tests, as he is the second highest run scorer for the team in the calendar year with 677 runs off 15 matches, at an average of 45.13 and a highest score of 102.

Gambhir has registered 2 hundreds and five fifties in ODIs this year, but his Test performance has not been great, which raises many eye-brows.

Kapil Dev, who has observed both the Delhi players for the past few months, felt there is a need for these two players to strike form at the earliest.
