Cape Town, Oct 22: Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir expressed his disappointment not having qualified for the semi-final of Champions League T20 following a dismal performance in the league stage of the tournament.
Put into bat by Titans, Kolkata posted a challenging 188/5 in 20 overs, as Bisla (27), Gambhir (44), Brendon McCullum (36) and Debabrata Das (43*) helped the IPL champions to post a defendable target, as they had failed to register a win in the last three matches.
Kolkata had lost to Delhi Daredevils and Auckland Aces in their first two matches while the third one against Perth Scorchers was abandoned due to rain.
"It is very disappointing not to have qualified for the semi-finals but this is not the end of the world. We will definitely come back stronger in the next edition of Indian Premier League," Gambhir said after his team registered a 99-run win against Titans on Sunday.
Gambhir appreciated the team's effort in the final group match against Titans, but felt the team was a quality side but did not perform well in the tournament.
"I still feel we are a quality side, we put this performance on the field today. When you get 180 in these conditions, you know you have the bowling to defend."
The skipper who was struggling to score runs, strike form as he made 44 off 36 balls, while Debabrata Das was the hero on Sunday, as KKR registered a 99-run win against Titans as he had a quick-fire 43 off 19 balls to help the team post a challenging 188/5 in 20 overs.
"Credit to Das for the way finished the innings while Bisla batted brilliantly at the top of the order."
Bisla, was awarded the man of the match for his quick-fire 43, who said his game plan was to see the ball and hit it, which worked in his favour this time around.
"I was just told to go out there and play my game. My game is to see the ball and hit it."
