Durban, Oct 26: Delhi Daredevils, the only IPL team that proceeded to the last four stage, succumbed to pressure as hosts Highveld Lions defeated Daredevils by 22 runs in the first semifinal at Durban on Thursday.
Daredevils restricted Highveld Lions to 139/5 in 20 overs, after opting to field as Umesh Yadav was the only bowler who restricted the Lions to a modest total as others conceded more runs.
Yadav also picked two wickets and conceded 20 runs off 4 overs, while Morkel, Agarkar and Negi also picked a wicket each but leaked too many runs.
Ghulam Bodi (50), Petersen (24), Neil McKenzie (46*) played a vital role as they ensured that the team posted a modest total, when they were in trouble after losing Pretorius in the 11th over, as the team had scored 63 for the loss of three wickets.
Chasing a modest 140 to win, Delhi Daredevils struggled a lot, as they failed to get a good start. Virender Sehwag, who was giving Daredevils a good start, was dismissed for a nought on Thursday in the third ball of the innings, as Warner also disappointed by scoring just 21.
Interestingly, the man who played T20s after a long break, Kevin Pietersen, following his controversial axing from the England team, played a magnificent role as he score 50 and was dismissed by Morris, later the team slipped to 104/9 in a span of 7 overs, losing 7 wickets for 42 runs.
The team's batting and fielding was a concern on Thursday as they dropped a couple of catches, but they tried their best in the tournament compared to the other IPL teams.
With a win in the semifinal, Lions are all set to play the title clash against the winners of Sydney Sixers and Titans on Sunday, Oct 29.
