Tiwary misses ton, Yuvraj shines

Mumbai, Oct 30: Manoj Tiwary missed out on a century as he fell for 93 but took India A past 350 on the opening day of their three-day warm-up game against England at the Brabourne Stadium here on Tuesday.

Left-hander Yuvraj Singh brightened his chances of a Test recall with a fine 59 as Suresh Raina failed. Tiway too has impressed the selectors today but will he get the nod in an already settled Test line-up remains to be seen on November 5.

At stumps on first day, India A made 369/9 in 90 overs. There were three half centuries by the hosts batsmen. Opener Abhinav Mukund scored 73.

Tim Bresnan and Graeme Swann had three wickets apiece. Bresnan took two in two balls but Ashok Dinda denied him a hat-trick.

Tiwary took 150 balls for his 93 and scored 12 boundaries.

England were hampered by the absence of their main bowler Steven Finn, who limped off the ground due to thigh problem, after bowling just four overs. He was set to have a scan on his right leg to know the extent of the injury, according to a report on England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) website.
